The modular Linux handheld computer receives Gold in the Product Design category.
iMAC Design & Engineering Services has been recognized with Gold in the Product Design category at the CII Design Excellence Awards 2026, for its mechanical design and engineering contribution to Mecha Comet – a modular Linux handheld computer developed with Mecha Systems.
This recognition reflects iMAC’s growing track record in product design and development, and its ability to take a technically ambitious concept through mechanical architecture, prototyping, and manufacturing readiness.
The CII Design Excellence Awards, organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry, recognize outstanding design work across Indian industry – from product and industrial design to packaging and communication design. Now in its 16th edition in 2026, the awards are judged on design thinking, functionality, manufacturability, and market impact, making recognition in the Product Design category a significant industry benchmark.
Mecha Comet is a modular, Linux-based handheld computer built around an open, swappable module system – letting users reconfigure the device for different compute, connectivity, and input needs rather than being locked into a single fixed form factor. The design pairs a touchscreen display unit with interchangeable base modules, including a QWERTY keyboard variant, aimed at makers, developers, and tech enthusiasts who want hardware that adapts to how they work.
iMAC’s scope on Mecha Comet centered on the product’s mechanical design and engineering – translating the modular concept into a physical system that actually snaps together, aligns, and holds up to daily handling.
“This recognition belongs to the engineers who worked through every iteration of Mecha Comet’s modular interfaces and to Mecha Systems for trusting us with a genuinely ambitious product.”
